How much does it cost to post an ad?
Answer: Nothing. All ads, in all categories, are 100% FREE. We do provide an option for a user or business owner to upgrade their ad to a 'Sponsored ad' for a relative fee, but it is an option only feature and is not required in order to post an ad. Again, all ads on island500.com are 100% FREE.
I have very limited understanding of computers. Is it difficult to post my ads or forum topics?
We have done our best to create a website that is not only visually pleasing and useful, but easy to navigate as well. We have brief instructions for each step in the process, and a helpful team ready to help if you have questions. Simply contact us at admin@island500.com if you require extra help.
To where and from whom can I buy and sell?
Answer: Similar sites have a city or a city-by-city listing; we have an island-by-island listing. From the Cayman Islands to Barbados, from Trinidad to Hawaii, we allow you to find what you're looking for close to home and on your island. Please remember that if you're importing/exporting items from other islands or countries, additional fees, shipping, currency differences and customs responsibilities should be anticipated. And remember to take caution and AVOID SCAMS when importing items not found locally on your island.
Why should I choose to use island500.com?
Answer: The website is designed specifically for islanders and allows islanders to not only list and see items that are available on their own island, but also on other islands and countries as well. Connecting islanders with each other and with exporters of goods and services creates great opportunities. This allows you to potentially save a lot while comparison shopping also. When it comes to getting the unique feel that only islanders can really get, you needn't look any further than island500.com.
What if a seller fails to deliver as promised, or a customer fails to pay?
Answer: We are simply a medium through which people can contact each other, so all disputes must be handled free of island500.com. However, to protect other potential buyers/sellers from questionable users on the site, please report the incident to us so that we can take appropriate measures against the guilty party, up to and including the suspension or termination of their account.
What does flagging an ad mean?
Answer: Think of it like a foul in sports. When the flag goes up, the offending player or play is penalised. Online, flagging is simply a way of keeping the site visitor-friendly. If there's an ad, post, product, or service that's offensive in some way, in the wrong category, contains prohibited content, or otherwise needs attention, just simply flag it. This will let the administrators know that there is something that needs to be addressed, and maybe even removed.
How do I search?
General Search
To search, find the box that says "Search" and enter the appropriate keywords into the box. You can limit your search to certain categories, items on sale, real estate, events, and more! You can also search the category(ies) you selected (such as real estate for example) within a particular location/island, a few locations/islands or just your island!
Search by Amount
You can also search by amount (for example: say you are searching for an apartment or vehicle? Then enter your maximum amount in the "max. cost" box in the search engine and all ads in your search category up to and below your maximum amount will appear. You can even check the box the reads 'only show ads w/ pics' in order to search only ads that have pictures included in the ad.
Search by Ad#
Also, you can search just by ad#. If you find an ad you like and you want to review it later, just write down the ad#; when you want to look at the ad later, just enter it in the search engine under search by ad# and it will take you straight to that particular ad.
How do I save an item in order to review it at a later time?
Answer: If you are interested in an item(s) on the site, you will be able to save them to a "favorites" section of your account so that you can view them again at a future time. Just simply click the "add to favorites" icon and it will be saved to your "My Favorite Items" section automatically. Easy!
How do I view the forum?
Answer: A forum is a place where you can go to 'sound off' on any particular topic. The forums contain a list of different issues or topics that other users have found interesting, with subjects ranging from politics to travel. Feel free to contribute to any thread (topic of discussion) by clicking on the thread's title, then clicking the "Add to Post" button. Write your feelings, click "Submit Post," and then see who responds to you!
How do I post a resume?
Answer: Everyone knows that a resume does you no good if people can't see it. island500.com makes it easy to do just that. To upload your resume, go to the Resume category on the home page and click on the link "resume/cv". Once clicked, it will be bring you to the familiar 'ad posting page'. Simply fill in your information or cut and paste it from an already created file and remember to make it clear which island you're on or would like to be working on for example. Remember to include your contact information. Employers and agents will then be able to browse through what's available and contact you if you fit their criteria.
